Come to Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area in Montville Township, on Saturday, September 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., for the third-annual Meet a Monarch Butterfly Festival and experience a day of fun-filled butterfly activities for all ages to enjoy! Create fingerprint butterfly artwork and travel through the life cycle of monarch butterflies! See first-hand how a caterpillar morphs into the magnificent winged creature and search for monarch eggs, caterpillars, and butterflies in the butterfly garden. Observe how butterflies sip the nectar from milkweed plants using a special kind of mouth. Kids even have a chance to try it for themselves using juice. When you get home, create your very own butterfly garden using ideas and tips for building a monarch habitat in your backyard!
Tiny numbered tags are placed by a trained naturalist onto the wings of live adult monarchs before they are released into the sky. These tags, used for research, help scientists gain a better understanding of the incredible trip the butterflies make. Become a researcher for the day and record data you find in the garden to earn a free packet of milkweed seeds!
