Supporters
The Friends of Historic Speedwell is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group that supports Historic Speedwell. Friends' members volunteer, advocate, reach out within their communities, and provide financial support.
Accomplishments
The Friends have supported historic building restoration including the National Historic Register L’Hommedieu House and the National Historic Landmark Factory Building. Friends' funding has helped conserve collections including portraits of Stephen and Bethiah Vail painted by Samuel F.B. Morse in 1837. The interactive, hands-on exhibit on the history of the telegraph located in the Factory Building was funded, in part, by the Friends.
Current fundraising efforts will assist with phase two of the exhibit in the Factory Building and support special event programming. The Friends of Historic Speedwell are also strong advocates for historic preservation of all the buildings and features within the entire Speedwell Historic District. Each year, the Friends sponsor three fundraising events.
How You Can Help
- Become a Friends of Historic Speedwell member. Members receive discounts on general admission, 10% discount in the Gift Shop, and a quarterly newsletter.
- Attend the annual wine tasting, held on Thursday February 19, 2009.
- Come to the "Friends of History Awards" fundraiser hosted by the Friends of Historic Speedwell. This September event honors members of the local community who have been dedicated to historic preservation in the Morris County area.
