Born to Be Shorn

Born to be Shorn Logo

Take advantage of the rare opportunity to witness the hand-shearing of live sheep, up close and personal, as it was done in the past. Bring your friends and family to experience something unique and wonderful. The live sheep are so calm as they are sheared by a professional who works with only a pair of shears quickly and calmly, with skill and precision. It is astonishing to witness the trust demonstrated between human and animal in order to complete the job.

Following the shearing, enjoy the hands-on activities, such as skirting and washing the fleece, and carding, spinning, and weaving the yarn. You can also see how the fleece/yarn turns amazingly brilliant natural colors as it is dyed in a pot over an open fire.

Date: Saturday, May 10
Time: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Location: Cooper Gristmill, 66 Route 513, Chester Township
Cost: $3 for Adults, $2 for Seniors (65+), $1 for Children (4-16), and under 4 are admitted FREE.
