Our Current Projects

The Don Palmer Memorial Internship Program

Langdon "Don" Palmer was a Park Commissioner and a leader in land conservation in Morris County. Don was at the forefront of establishing the Morris County Open Space and Farmland Preservation Fund. He also served as Chairman of The Nature Conservancy and President of the New Jersey Conservation Foundation. He was a leader of The Trust for Public Land, Morris Land Conservancy, Washington Township Land Trust, and the Morris County Agricultural Development Board.

Upon his passing, Don's friends established the Don Palmer Memorial Internship Fund in 2000. Since then grants of $2000 have been provided for two internships to non-profit or government agencies for projects related to conservation, open space, and natural resource protection.

The applications for these grants are generally available in March of each year for use within that calendar year. A final report of the intern's activities is due by December 31. For more information, contact the Park Alliance office at 973-631-5273.

The Jets Play 60 All Access Playground A Family Funfest and 5K

Opened in August 2014, the All Access Playground at Central Park of Morris County, in Parsippany, was truly a community project. The Alliance led the fundraising effort and was supported by major sponsors The New York Jets, and Wyndham Worldwide, Morristown Medical Center, the Dearhaven Fund, Finish Line Stores, and the Community Foundation of New Jersey. Many other donors and sponsors made this new facility a reality. The idea behind the design was to ensure that children with a variety of disabilities were able to play with their friends and family members.  It is unlike any other playground in the area, and has become a regional attraction in a very short time. Phase Two of the project is to install shade structures to protect the children from harmful sun exposure and to protect those who cannot be in the sun due to the medications they are taking. Please support our shade project!

Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center Exhibits

Many of the exhibits at the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center in Chatham Township were kindly created by volunteers when the Center opened – 50 years ago! An effort is underway to create new exhibits that bring the animals and plants of the swamp, and the importance of this ecosystem, to children and adults as they visit the Center. The Center is a buffer between man and nature and it is home to several critical habitats. We are assisted in the design of the exhibits by generous staff from Novartis Pharmaceuticals. Your support for the fabrication of the new exhibits would be greatly appreciated.

"Stars Plaza" at Mennen Sports Arena

An ongoing project at William G. Mennen Sports Arena in Morris Township is the ability to recognize and honor your favorite hockey player or figure skater with an engraved brick. Bricks are available in 4x8 inch or 8x8 inch sizes. Four by eight inch bricks are $75 and 8x8 inch bricks are $150. Larger multi-brick displays are also available. Business names can also be recognized. Bricks are placed in the front plaza of the Arena. Funds support programs and equipment specifically for Mennen Arena.

Off Leash Dog Parks

The Morris County Park Commission has two dog parks, one at Lewis Morris County Park, Morris Township, and one at Central Park of Morris County, Parsippany. The Park Alliance supports both parks with amenities and supplies. Donations are accepted for the support of the dog parks. Banner sponsorships are also accepted and recognized with a banner along the fence. Benches are available for sponsorship as well and the donor is recognized with a plaque on the bench.

If you are interested in supporting one of these projects, or another program or facility of the Park Commission, please contact the Morris Park Alliance by phone at 973-631-5273 or
