Best Dressed in the Vail House: The Ails of the Vails

During this interactive guided tour, learn about mid-nineteenth century methods of practicing medicine through the experiences of the Vail family. Excerpts from home-owner Stephen Vail’s journal, doctors’ accounts, and historical artifacts within the Vail House tell stories of early healing practices. Re-enact 19th century disease symptoms, and be treated by a ‘doctor’ with real early American medicine remedies. Recipes for healing candies are also provided. This program features costumed interpreters leading tours of the Vail House.

September 11th National Memorial Trail Hosts First Complete Ride Along Trail

Starting on April 11 through May 23, the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance will be hosting and riding in the first-ever complete bike ride along the trail, connecting the three 9/11 memorial locations, the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Flight 93 Memorial. The complete ride will take 23 days and cover 1,200 miles.

Please join us on Tuesday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m. at the Morris County September 11th Memorial as we welcome the participating board members who will be passing through our area. The ceremony is open to the public and local dignitaries.

Join a fun and unique experience of turning fleece into woolen fiber. Watch a live sheep shearing as it was done in the past without electricity, enjoy hands-on activities, such as weaving, spinning, and crafting, meet the cute, baby lambs, and tour the 1826 water-powered Cooper Gristmill - the only fully water-powered gristmill in New Jersey that still produces flour and meal.
