Photography and Filming Permits

Photography

The Morris County Park Commission are stewards to more than 20,000 acres of parkland in the heart of northern New Jersey. For decades, people have documented their unforgettable moments or created stunning images to promote products and services.

When to Apply for a Photography Permit

Photography is encouraged in the parks.

A photography permit is required for all commercial/promotional/advertising or special occasion photo sessions, including wedding and engagement photos, quinceaneras, prom photos, and family portraits that will take place at Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center, Frelinghuysen Arboretum, or Willowwood Arboretum.

A permit is required when one of the following is met for all other parks and facilities:

  • Photography may impact others and/or the environment.
  • If props or equipment is needed
  • If the video or photos may be sold
  • If exclusive access or access to a closed park/facility is needed
  • A photographer or videographer has been hired or will be used to take the photos.
  • Photos are intended for commercial use.

Application Process

The process starts when the application and a draft of the supporting documents has been submitted (additional documents may be required).

The completed application and documents will be reviewed.

  • Applications take 5-7 working days to process.

Upon approval MCPC staff will provide assistance to ensure all requirements are met prior to receiving permit.

An invoice will be generated to confirm the times, dates, location and payment.

Fees

Fees are assessed based on the number of people and cameras on site.

The fees will include:

  • Permit Fee
  • Reservation Fee/s – if applicable
  • Additional Fees – may include Portable Restrooms, Maintenance Worker/s, Police Officer/s, Alcohol Permit, Vendor Permits, etc. if applicable

Filming

When to Apply for a Filming Permit

A permit is required when one of the following is met:

  • Filming may impact others and/or the environment
  • If props or equipment is needed
  • If the video or photos may be sold
  • If exclusive access or access to a closed park/facility is needed
  • A photographer or videographer has been hired or will be used to capture video
  • Park or Facility will be used for Student Filming
  • Park or Facility will be used for Commercial Filming
  • Park or Facility will be used for Major Motion Picture Filming
