Set among a majestic 124 acres, this arboretum offers a serene setting for relaxation and plentiful opportunities to host your next event.

For more information or to reserve this location, please fill out the Horticultural Site event form and someone from the Horticultural Reservation office will contact you. Requests will be handled in the order that they are received and by date requested.

Matilda’s Cottage

Matilda’s Cottage is a fully-functional café dining room with kitchen space that is perfect for smaller gatherings such as wedding/baby showers, birthday parties, and meetings. Also available for commercial photographers to accommodate more elaborate equipment setups when working in the park, and a large restroom that can be used when there are multiple outfit changes.

Non-profit/Government Use

  • Weekdays 9am to 4pm, non-holiday – $40/hr residents; $60/hr non-resident
  • Off-hours, weekdays 4pm -9pm, weekends 9am to 4:30pm, holidays – $90/hr residents; $110/hr non-residents

Private/Corporate Use

  • Weekdays 9am to 4pm, non-holiday – $150/hr residents; $200/hr non-resident
  • Off-hours, weekdays 4pm -9pm, weekends 9am to 4:30pm, holidays – $250/hr residents; $300/hr non-residents

Bookings for Matilda’s Cottage require at least 4 weeks advance reservation.

Rental fee and completed reservation form are due upon receipt of your invoice to secure reservation.

Requests will be handled in the order that they are received and by date requested.

Responsibilities and Acknowledgments

  • Hourly rentals may not put up any tents on the site.
  • Delivery, set-up and pick-up must be done during the time the renter is renting the building.
  • Only the area listed on the permit may be utilized by the renter and only between the times listed.
  • Intended and expected number of guests/attendees are not to exceed the amount set by the Fire Marshal.
  • Vehicle parking along service roads is prohibited. Parking permitted in designated areas only.
  • The park is carry-in/carry-out with no trash service.
  • The area must be left in the condition it was found. Please do not throw silk petals, rice, confetti, or bird seed.
  • Drones and balloons are not allowed.
  • Smoking is prohibited.
  • No picking, cutting, or damaging of plant materials.
  • The use of open-flame decorative devices is not permitted without the approval of the Morris County Fire Marshal’s Office.
  • Where solid alcohol fuel food warmers are used on top of a serving table, paper or plastic table coverings are not permitted. A flame-resistant tablecloth that covers the entire tabletop shall be used. Table decorations must be flame resistant. Combustible material such as plates, napkins, plastic utensils, cups and similar products shall be separated by a minimum of three (3) feet from the food warmers.
  • Permits are non-transferable from one event to another in whole or in part.
  • Permit expiration time is on the permit. A penalty of double the applicable reservation hourly rate will be assessed for failure to leave on time, as specified on the permit.

Any vendor performing work on-site as a service to a renter must fill out a vendor application and provide all the insurance requirements as listed on that application.

Haggerty Center Classrooms

Located on the grounds of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, the Haggerty Education Center is open all year round. Two large classroom spaces offer you an opportunity to host your next class or meeting at the Arboretum. The classrooms are spacious and are complete with moveable tables and chairs making them easy to rearrange to fit your groups specific needs.

Corporate Use

  • Weekdays 9 am to 4 pm, non-holiday – $100/hour for residents; $150/hour non-residents
  • Off-hours, weekdays after 4 pm, weekends, holidays – $200/hour for residents; $250/hour non-residents

Wedding Packages

  • Package A: 5-hour event – $2,100/residents; $2,500/non-residents
  • Package B: Package A and Craig Garden Rental – $2,325/residents; $2,800 non-residents

Located on the grounds of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, the Auditorium at the Haggerty Education Center is open all year round. The Auditorium provides an unparalleled setting for exquisite dinners, receptions, graduations, business meetings, conferences, lectures or training seminars.

Mansion

The original 1891 summer estate of the George and Sara Frelinghuysen, one of New Jersey’s prominent families, is now available to host your next soirée, memorial, shower, or reception. The Colonial Revival mansion has been renovated to accommodate a variety of uses as the house lives on as a jewel of the historic places within Morris County. Reservable spaces include the Board Room, Billiard Room, Living Room, and the West Porch. The West Porch can be used as an add-on space for tent events featuring a cocktail hour in the Rose Garden.

  • West Porch, includes use of the Rose Garden – $525.
  • Craig Garden add-on to a room rental – $225.
  • Choice of Board Room/Billiard Room or Living Room – $350 each.
  • West Porch add-on to Billiard or Living Room – $100.
  • Additional per hour fee – $150/hr.

Private Event Packages

  • Package A – 5-hour event includes kitchen access from 9am-9pm for setup & cleanup – $3500.
  • Package B – Package A plus 2 hr Craig Garden Rental – $3800.
  • Package C – Package B plus 1hr use of Rose Garden – $4420.
  • Rental after 9pm – $250/hr.

The Mansion is available from 9am to 9pm.
