Starting Wednesday, October 2 through Thursday, October 31, enjoy haunting activities at various Morris County Park Commission locations. From trembling, nature-themed tales to creating boo-tiful centerpieces, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Check out featured Halloween Events below!
‘The Time to Mourn’
Take a special guided tour of The Willows, the Foster family’s mansion, to explore the unique death and mourning traditions of the Victorian era at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township. Discover how customs, now considered strange, influenced loved ones for months and years after a person passed. Tours are available Wednesdays through Sundays, October 2 through October 31 at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. This program is appropriate for adults and children ages 12 and up, and admission is $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child age 4-16.
Historic Haunting
A scary and fun afternoon awaits! On Saturday, October 26, from 12 noon to 4 p.m., celebrate Halloween at Historic Speedwell in Morristown. Enjoy spooky ghost stories and play fun Halloween games. Wear your favorite costume and enter into an old-fashioned costume contest. Prizes will be awarded to all winners! Boo-tiful Flowers
On Thursday, October 24 visit The Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morris Township, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., to create a spooky work of art! Young Halloween fans will make a spook-tacular centerpiece perfect for any kind of Halloween display. All materials will be supplied for this creative program for $20 per person. Trail Tales & Teeny Tiny Trail Tales
Are you afraid of the dark? On Saturday, October 26, visit the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center in Chatham Township for an exciting, outdoor adventure. Enjoy a memorable night of silly, slightly spooky, and nature-themed tales told by costumed storytellers along the decorated nighttime trails of the Great Swamp. Discover hand-carved jack-o-lanterns in the forest that light the trails and add to the eerie atmosphere. Sign up for a Trail Tales time slots between 5:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Admission is $8 per person, and be sure to register early as time slots fill up quickly! This program is designed for ages 6 and up and fun-loving adults.
Teeny Tiny Trail Tales is just for families with small children ages 2 to 5. On Saturday, October 26, time slots between 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., explore the trails during daylight with a guide. Hunt for hidden surprises along the way, and listen to storytellers in the woods. Admission is $3 per person. Sign up for a time slot before they fill up! A Miller’s Halloween
On Saturday, October 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., come in costume to Cooper Gristmill in Chester Township, and enjoy spook-tacular storytelling. Spend the afternoon creating corn husk dolls and playing old-time games. Tour the Gristmill, and look for surprises around every corner. The event is free, and donations are welcome. Historic Halloween Happenings
Play festive Halloween games, decorate cookies, and try on old-fashioned costumes at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township. The fun starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 27. Take a guided walk, and find all of the jack-o-lanterns hiding in the nearby woods. Top off the afternoon with an open-air wagon ride back to the Visitors Center.
