Mount Olive wins Morris Park Alliance Award

Friday, November 08, 2019

The Morris County Park Alliance recently held its Community Recognition Awards and presented the Township of Mt. Olive with its Outstanding Parks and Recreation Program award.  Board member Joan Barbarula presented Jill Daggon of the Mt. Olive Recreation Department with an attractive glass plaque and a New Jersey State Joint Citation provided by Assemblyman Anthony Bucco.

Mt. Olive Recreation held a Bubble-Palooza 5 K Run Walk as a new fun event that combined bubbles and a color run. Working with a contractor from Calverton, New York, that provided the specialized equipment, the department coordinated the venue, marketing, and sponsor solicitation. More than twenty volunteers helped with registration, packet pick-up and bubble chute supervision. Sponsors supported water stops, comfort stations, a DJ, and a party area. More than 700 people participated and even more were spectators. A bubble pit was available for smaller attendees.

Jill Daggon reported that the course was modified to a 2.5K course in order to double the fun of running through the bubbles. Younger participants could also stop at the halfway point of they got tired.
