THE CIVIL WAR INVADES HISTORIC SPEEDWELL

Wednesday, April 24, 2019

MORRISTOWN, NJ. On Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., step onto the battlefields of the American Civil War at Civil War Weekend at Historic Speedwell in Morristown.

Join the Second New Jersey Brigade for this unique, two-day event, as they reenact the daily lives of soldiers through musket, artillery, and bayonet drills, cannon firings, exciting skirmishes, and more. Speak to the soldiers about cooking, dress, and general setup of the camp, and cover your ears as the massive period cannon fires.

Learn about the basics of battlefield medicine for soldiers who suffered injuries or diseases, and visit the medical area where the ‘wounded’ are cared for. There is something to experience around every corner!

Tour the National Historic Landmark Factory Building, and enjoy the interactive, hands-on telegraph exhibit, and visit the Vail House that was built more than 150 years ago. Explore the exhibits on the Speedwell Ironworks, a granary full of early farm implements, and watch the enormous 24-foot overshot waterwheel turn in the Wheelhouse.

Admission to this event is $7 per adult, $6 per senior, $5 per child age 4 - 16, and FREE ages 4 and under. For more information and directions to Historic Speedwell, visit morrisparks.net or call 973.285.6550.
