Learn-To-Skate group classes are for skaters age 4 through adult who are looking to learn how to ice skate. These classes are designed to teach the basic skating skills needed to confidently glide on the ice, whether on your own along with the skills necessary to progress into the sport of Figure Skating or Hockey. No prior ice skating experience is necessary to join the Learn- To-Skate program.

The classes will be offered on Tuesday, July 6 – August 17 at 5:45pm and 6:15pm.

Thursday classes will be held on July 8 – August 19 at 5:45pm and 6:15pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what class to register for?
If you have a 3 year old skater, please register them for the Pre-School Class.
If you have a skater between the ages of 4-6, please register them for the Snowplow Sam 1 Class.
If you have a skater between the ages of 7-12, please register them for the Basic 1 class.
For skaters age 13 and above, please register for the Adult 1 class.
If you have a skater who has taken skating lessons before, please contact the Skating office for guidance as to what level to register for.

What’s included in my class fee?
Participants receive 30 minutes of group instruction per class along with a designated practice session. Skaters will also receive membership to Learn to Skate USA, the only grassroots skating program endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speed Skating with support from the Special Olympics, Professional Skaters Association and the U.S. Ice Rink Association.  Membership is good from July 1st – June 30th.

Mennen Sports Arena, in partnership with Learn to Skate USA provides a fun and positive experience that will instill a lifelong love of skating. All new members will receive a welcome packet that contains a skater record book to track progress through the program, a parent handbook and a Learn to Skate USA magazine filled with helpful information about all aspects of skating. 

Can I rent skates for the class?
Yes, skate rentals are available starting at a child size 6 up to an adult size 14. Figure and hockey skates are available. The price is $3.00 per day.

What is the cost of the Learn-To-Skate classes?
The exact lesson price will depend on the number of weeks the class is being held.
6 Week Session: $120.00
7 Week Session: $140.00
8 Week Session: $160.00

20% off a third family member’s enrollment
Sign-up for two classes per week for the same skater and get 15% off of the second class fee.
All coupons must be present at the time of sign-up with full payment.

What is the class size?
Pre-School- Approximately 5 skaters
Snowplow Sam 1- Approximately 8 skaters
Snowplow Sam 2 and above- Approximately 10 skaters

How do I use my practice ice time? 
If you are in classes on Mondays, Tuesdays (AM & Afternoon), Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays you will receive a public session ticket when you check in at the front office and are able to skate before or after your lessons. (Please check our public skating schedule for exact session times.)
If you are in classes on Tuesday nights (6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.) you have practice ice from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
If you are in classes on Saturdays you will receive a public session ticket when you check in at the front office and are able to skate on either the 10 a.m. - 12 noon or 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Public session.  

Important Class Policies:
Make-Ups: There are no make-up classes for any missed classes.
Cancellations: Classes may be combined due to lack of enrollment. Cancellations may occur if registration fails to meet the required number of students. If a class is canceled, the arena will attempt to notify participants. An additional per class fee taken will be applied.
Credits: Credits are not issued after the second lesson. Granted credits are applied to the next Learn-To-Skate session.
Transfers: There are no transfers within the Learn-To-Skate program. Skaters may not switch days once enrolled for a specific day and time.
Refunds: A $25.00 administrative fee applies to any class withdrawals and/or refunds. An additional per class fee taken applies. (Per class fee determined by the total amount paid divided by the number of class weeks.) No refunds will be processed by the front office, please contact the Skating School directly. No refund requests will be accepted after the second class except for refunds due to injury. Please email a written request to the Skating School, along with a doctor’s note if due to injury. Processing a refund may take up to 6 weeks.
