Located along the Passaic River in Long Hill and Chatham Townships, Passaic River County Park, a general purpose park, is part of an effort to protect the river from development and encroachment. A total of 825.49 acres, including more than 5,000 feet of riverbank, are available for leisurely hiking, picnicking, fishing, softball, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and canoe launching.
History:
The first parcel of land was acquired from Frederick H. Rauh, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Conrad. Chatham Township also donated land. Green Acres funding, totaling $20,000, assisted with the initial preservation effort. The Clover Hill additions were funded through the Green Trust, and federal land and water conservation grant dollars. The Clover Hill acreage, located in Long Hill Township, is separated from the Chatham Township section by several miles.
Hours of Operation:
Passaic River County Park is open daily Sunrise to Sunset throughout the year.
