Wednesday, November 9: Lovely Leaving Leaves - Look at the shapes of different leaves around the garden and their new colors! Make a centerpiece with leaves on a vase and add some seasonal flowers and grasses.

Wednesday, December 14: Here Come the Holidays! - Craft a holiday centerpiece out of branches, berries and seasonal greens that are perfect for the winter celebration.

Sunday, October 9: Coexisting with Coyotes - In this session, join us for an indoor presentation followed by a walk through the Great Swamp to learn about New Jersey's largest wild canine, the Eastern Coyote, and what can be done to minimize negative interaction between people and coyotes.

Sunday, November 13: Dealing with Deer - In this session, join us for an indoor presentation followed by a walk through the Great Swamp to discuss the issues caused by New Jersey's white-tailed deer population and what can be done to help correct the problems.

Sunday, December 11: Surviving the Winter - In this session, join us for an indoor presentation followed by a walk through the Great Swamp to learn about how New Jersey's wildlife has adapted to surviving the winter in a multitude of different ways, sometimes in a drastic fashion!

Enjoy a day of fun when school is out while learning about the adaptations and survival strategies of the hunters and the hunted. Play games that simulate what life is like for each type of animal, and observe these wild relationships in action on the trails. Complete the day by making a craft, reading stories and gaining a new perspective on how wild animals get their food. Participants should bring a nut-free lunch and snack.

November 15: Lenape Life - Visit an authentic wigwam model in the forest, decorated to look like it's lived in and discover how the Lenape Indians of NJ used nature to survive. Play the games Lenape children played, and even make one to take home! 

December 13: Fascinating Forest at Great Swamp - It's cold out there!  How do the animals handle it?  There are many different strategies and we will explore them all.  We will even try to insulate  tiny "frogs" and see if we can keep them warm in the dens we build.

October 13: Plants that Bite Back - Who you gonna call? These plants are the spookiest of the plant world. Students will learn about carnivorous plants. 

November 3: Oaks Among Us - Tall and mighty, oaks are truly terrific trees! They help us breathe and give us shade. Learn about the air cycle and their part in it. 

December 15: The Botany Behind the Holly-Days - Learn about holly, poinsettias and mistletoe. What’s a parasitic plant? How did these plants become part of yearly traditions? Find out and bring home a holiday swag to display and enjoy.

October 20: Fall is My Favorite Color - Fall in New Jersey is a beautiful time, but why do the leaves turn? In this science-based workshop, learn why autumn foliage turns brilliant colors and how this is important to the environment. This program is recommended for all ages. 

November 10: Cog in the Machine - See the antique cars on the farm and learn how the assembly line changed early America and how it works. Put together a craft that involves the assembly line with your fellow students! 

December 8: Holiday History - How was Christmas celebrated in the past? Tour The Willows mansion decorated for different decades of Christmas and learn all about it!

Discover different types of wildlife that come out at night; from racoons to barred owls to river otters; as well as the adaptations that allow these animals to thrive and survive in the dark. After starting indoors with some fun activities, head out on the trail in the fading light to search for nighttime animals. Bring a flashlight.

S’more Fun Trail Run & 1-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk

The S’more Fun Trail run features a chip timed 5k race or a 1-mile family fun run/walk at Central Park of Morris County’s cross-country course. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
