Morris County Youth Hockey League

The Morris County Youth Hockey League offers a ‘Skating Skill Development and Instructional Hockey Clinic’ for beginner and intermediate players.

Since ice hockey requires two skill sets, our program stresses basic skating skill development (starting, stopping, turning, backward skating, crossovers) in the first half of our season, then moves into hockey skill development (passing, shooting, rules, team play) in the second half. When the coaches feel the players are ready, we play controlled scrimmages with the coaches on-ice to stop play for learning opportunities. The key to our program is basic skill development with positive reinforced coaching as a group and an individual basis, and an emphasis on having fun. This program is primarily for players who have completed the learn to skate program through Mennen Arena, and 2nd and 3rd year players. It is a great way to introduce your child to learn how to play ice hockey, and for average skilled players that are playing on a MCYHL team to get extra ice time and skill development.

We’ve had three co-ed age groups the past few years; 5-6-year-old, 7-8 and 9-13. Our program runs for fifteen consecutive weeks, and are 45 minutes each, all at Mennen Arena on Saturday mornings from mid-November to mid-March. We try to limit each group to 32-36 players to ensure a good coach-to-player ratio (1:6).

Our goal is to make the introduction to ice hockey fun, developmental and affordable. Registration opens mid-September: www.mcyhl.net (Saturday morning clinic) For more information on the program please send us an email.
