Mennen Sports Arena (MSA) is a proud partner of Learn to Skate USA® with a joint mission to provide a fun and positive experience that will provide a lifelong love of skating.
Proud to be the #1 Learn to Skate USA program in New Jersey and in the Top 20 in the country, MSA offers a skater development pipeline to figure skating, hockey and speed skating. Whether you just want to learn to skate comfortably across the ice or become a competitive skater in figure, hockey or speed, there is a pathway for you at Mennen!
Learn-To-Skate group classes are for skaters age 4 through adult who are looking to learn how to ice skate.
These classes are designed to teach the basic ice skating skills needed to confidently glide on the ice along with the skills necessary to progress into the sport of figure skating, hockey or speed skating.
Learn to Skate classes teach the fundamentals of ice skating. No prior ice-skating experience is necessary to join the Learn-To-Skate program.
Learn to Skate class registration includes:
- 30 minutes of group instruction each week
- Membership with Learn to Skate USA, the only grassroots skating program endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speed Skating with support from the Special Olympics and the U.S. Ice Rink Association. Membership is good from July 1st – June 30th.
- 8 Free Public Skating admissions for each skater to practice. This Public Session Pass can be used at your convenience on any weekday or weekend public session. This Pass is limited to 8 sessions and will expire at the end of the learn to skate semester. Skate rentals are not included during the public session. Skate rental is $4 per session if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what class to register for?
If you have a 3 year old skater, register them for the Pre-School Class.
If you have a skater between the ages of 4-6, register them for the Snowplow Sam 1 Class.
If you have a skater between the ages of 7-15, register them for the Basic 1 class.
For skaters age 15 and above, register for the Adult 1 class.
If you have a skater who has taken skating lessons before, contact the Skating office for guidance as to which level to register for.
What’s included in my class fee?

Can I rent skates for the class?
Yes, skate rentals are available starting at a child size 6 up to an adult size 14. Figure and hockey skates are available.
Skate rental is $4 per day cash, or you can prepay for the entire learn to skate session when you register for classes.
What is the cost of the Learn-To-Skate classes?
The exact lesson price will depend on the number of weeks the class is being held.
6 Week Session: $150.00
7 Week Session: $175.00
8 Week Session: $200.00
9 Week Session: $225.00
Do you offer any discounts?
10% off a second family member’s enrollment.
20% off a third family member’s enrollment.
Sign-up for two classes per week for the same skater and get 15% off of the second-class fee.
What are the class sizes?
Pre-School: Approximately 5 skaters
Snowplow Sam 1: Approximately 8-10 skaters
Snowplow Sam 2 and above: Approximately 10-12 skaters
How do I use my practice ice time?
This Public Session Pass can be used at your convenience on any weekday or weekend public session. This Pass is limited to 8 sessions and will expire at the end of the learn to skate session. Before the first day of class you will receive an email with your Public Session Pass ID number so all you have to do is give your number at the cashier window when you come to a public session to redeem your ticket. The pass is attached to your Household Account for easy access if you forget your Pass ID number.
Skate rentals are not included during the public session.
Skate rental is $4 per session if needed.
Important Class Policies
Make-Ups: There are no make-up classes for any missed classes.
Cancellations: Classes may be combined due to lack of enrollment. Cancellations may occur if registration fails to meet the required number of students.
Credits: Credits are not issued after the second lesson. Granted credits are applied to the family’s household account. (Credits are only valid for 1 year from issue date)
Transfers: Skaters may not switch days or times once classes start.
Refunds: A $25.00 administrative fee applies to any class withdrawals and/or refunds. An additional per class fee applies. (Per class fees are determined by the total amount paid divided by the number of class weeks.)
No refund requests will be accepted after the second class except for refunds due to injury.
Please email a written request, along with a doctor’s note if due to injury, to the Skating School Administrator and a credit will be applied to your account.

Learn to Skate class registration is always opened to current customers first which are skaters currently enrolled in classes a week prior to the public online. Below you will find the outline of class dates. These dates are subject to change. Full class schedule and levels offered can be found on page 2 of the brochure.
Learn to Skate Camps are offered throughout the year and designated weeks in the Summer. Camps are in a half-day format and provide both on and off-ice classes. These camps are for 5–12-year-old (no prior skating experience required) and include both on and off-ice games and classes. Full-week camps during the Summer offer a three or five-day option.

We host shows twice a year one in the winter near the holidays and another in the Spring.
