Private Lessons
Private and Semi-Private lessons are offered 7 days a week. No more than 2 skaters are allowed during any instructional time. The price of the lesson depends upon the instructor’s rates and ranges from $45.00 - $60.00 for a 30-minute lesson, plus the cost of the ice time. The length of the lesson can be scheduled for 15, 20, 30, or 60-minutes. Each instructor sets their own schedule based on the availability of ice time. You can contact any of the instructors listed below at their personal email or phone number to discuss their fees and availability. All private lesson fees are paid in the front office; cash, check, or credit card payments are accepted.
Beginner Lessons:
- Beginner lessons are available for skaters of all ages or abilities. No prior skating experience is required. Most lessons are given during the Public Skating Sessions. The admission fee is $8.00 on weekdays, $10.00 on weekends and $10.00 on holidays. Skate rentals are available in all sizes, figure and hockey, for $5.00 per person. Figure Skating Lessons:
Figure skating lessons are offered during the Freestyle Sessions or Mennen Ice sessions. Pricing for Freestyle ice time depends upon the length of the session and ranges from $16.00 to $28.00 per session. Click here for the current Freestyle session times.
Hockey Lessons:
- Hockey lessons focusing on stick handling and shooting are available on the Hockey Teaching Sessions (HTS) calendar. Full equipment is required and only skaters taking a lesson are allowed on these sessions. Click here for the current Hockey Teaching session times.
- Power skating lessons focusing on speed and edgework are available during the Public Sessions or Freestyle Sessions listed at FS/D/O on the calendar. Skaters can only wear skates, helmet, and gloves; no full equipment is allowed.
Mennen's Elite Coaching Staff
Colleen O’Connor & Jim Milns: They won the hearts of millions of Americans by taking the Bronze medal as Ice Dancing made its debut at the 1976 Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck. The 25-year-old O’Connor, a Chicago native, and the 27-year-old Milns, born in Toledo, had trained under Doreen Denny at The Broadmoor Skating Club at the old World Arena in preparation for their Olympic challenge. They had been U.S. Champions in 1974, 1975 and 1976, and had placed 7th, 2nd and 3rd at the World Championships as the discipline headed for its inaugural at Innsbruck. At the Games, they won a surprising bronze behind two Soviet teams to make the medals podium. It would be thirty years until another American ice dancing medal, when Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto took the bronze medal in Torino this year. Milns and O’Connor were inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1993.
