Learn-To-Skate group classes are for skaters age 4 through adult who are looking to learn how to ice skate. These classes are designed to teach the basic skating skills needed to confidently glide on the ice along with the skills necessary to progress into the sport of figure skating, hockey or speedskating. Learn to Skate classes teach the fundamentals of ice skating. No prior ice skating experience is necessary to join the Learn- To-Skate program.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what class to register for?If you have a 3 year old skater, please register them for the Pre-School Class.
If you have a skater between the ages of 4-6, please register them for the Snowplow Sam 1 Class.
If you have a skater between the ages of 7-15, please register them for the Basic 1 class.
For skaters age 15 and above, please register for the Adult 1 class.
If you have a skater who has taken skating lessons before, please contact the Skating office for guidance as to what level to register for.
What’s included in my class fee?
Classes include 30 minutes of group instruction each week, yearly membership with Learn to Skate USA & 8 Free Public Skating admissions for each skater to practice. This Public Session Pass can be used at your convenience on any weekday or weekend public session. This Pass is limited to 8 sessions and will expire at the end of the 7 or 8 week session. Skate rentals are not included during the public session. Skate rental is $3 per session if needed.
Learn to Skate USA is the only grassroots skating program endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speed Skating with support from the Special Olympics, Professional Skaters Association and the U.S. Ice Rink Association. Membership is good from July 1st – June 30th.
Mennen Sports Arena, in partnership with Learn to Skate USA provides a fun and positive experience that will instill a lifelong love of skating. All new members will receive a welcome packet that contains a skater record book to track progress through the program, a parent handbook and a Learn to Skate USA magazine filled with helpful information about all aspects of skating.
Can I rent skates for the class?
Yes, skate rentals are available starting at a child size 6 up to an adult size 14. Figure and hockey skates are available. Skate rental is $3 per day cash, or you can prepay for the entire 7 or 8 week session when you register for classes.
What is the cost of the Learn-To-Skate classes?
The exact lesson price will depend on the number of weeks the class is being held.
7 Week Session: $150.00
8 Week Session: $160.00
9 Week Session: $180.00

10% off a second family member’s enrollment
20% off a third family member’s enrollment
Sign-up for two classes per week for the same skater and get 15% off of the second class fee.
All coupons must be present at the time of sign-up with full payment.
What is the class size?

How do I use my practice ice time?
This Public Session Pass can be used at your convenience on any weekday or weekend public session. This Pass is limited to 8 sessions and will expire at the end of the 7 or 8 week session. Before the first day of class you will receive an email with your Public Session Pass ID number so all you have to do is give your number at the cashier window when you come to a public session to redeem your ticket. The pass is attached to your Household Account for easy access if you forget your Pass ID number. Skate rentals are not included during the public session. Skate rental is $3 per session if needed.
Important Class Policies:
Make-Ups: There are no make-up classes for any missed classes.
Cancellations: Classes may be combined due to lack of enrollment. Cancellations may occur if registration fails to meet the required number of students.
Credits: Credits are not issued after the second lesson. Granted credits are applied to the family’s household account.
Transfers: Skaters may not switch days or times once classes start.
Refunds: A $25.00 administrative fee applies to any class withdrawals and/or refunds. An additional per class fee applies. (Per class fees are determined by the total amount paid divided by the number of class weeks.) No refund requests will be accepted after the second class except for refunds due to injury. Please email a written request, along with a doctor’s note if due to injury, to the Skating School. Processing a refund may take up to 6 weeks.
