A beautiful open space along the river in Long Hill and Chatham Townships offers hiking, picnic areas, fishing, a softball field, canoeing, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing.

Located along the Passaic River in Long Hill and Chatham Townships, Passaic River County Park, a general-purpose park, is part of an effort to protect the river from development and encroachment. A total of 847 acres, including more than 5,000 feet of riverbank, are available for leisurely park activities.

There is a reservable picnic site located at this park for your enjoyment.

The softball field is available for recreational softball or kickball games.

For water lovers, this park offers canoe launching and fishing opportunities along the Passaic River.

Please note the park’s Clover Hill acreage in Long Hill Township is separated by several miles from the Chatham Township section.

Having an event at Passaic River Park? Clubs, organizations, businesses and groups of 25 or more persons utilizing any Morris County Park area are required to make a reservation and obtain a permit.

History

The first parcel of land was acquired from Frederick H. Rauh and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Conrad. Chatham Township also donated land. Green Acres funding, totaling $20,000, assisted with the initial preservation effort. The Clover Hill additions were funded through the Green Trust, and federal land and water conservation grant dollars. The Clover Hill acreage, located in Long Hill Township, is separated from the Chatham Township section by several miles.
